Stoic Athenaeum Offers Philosophy-Backed Content Marketing

Copywriting is an industry that has many angles and viewpoints. It’s an industry I’ve been a part of for years and it’s rewarding, emotional, satisfying, stressful, crazy and thrilling all at once. The craziness gets dialled up even more when you’re a freelance copywriter and so it’s helpful to have a system in place that helps calm the mind, pushes me out of my comfort zone and keeps me going forward.

How To Write Like A Roman Emperor: Forging The Tone Of Voice Of Marcus Aurelius

The Stoics recommended journaling to be a vital part of a daily routine. Writing down thoughts and reflecting on the day could bring clarity and build a foundation for making improvements in small steps. Marcus’ writing style (Yes, we’re on a first name basis) has been analysed in depth to try to build a stronger picture of one of the most powerful men in history. As a copywriter, I find writing style to be a fascinating subject and it’s a huge part of how a brand shapes its tone of voice and the story that will be shared with customers.

In this article I’ll break down Marcus’ writing into a tone of voice across three key areas: tone, cadence and language.

How To Be A Stoic Copywriter

When exploring philosophy, one of the biggest questions to answer is not WHY to do something but HOW to do it. How can I apply this lesson? How can I put this teaching into practice?

This question fascinates me and it’s inspired the creation of a series called ‘How To’, which will look at how to apply different philosophical viewpoints to different roles. The first part of the series is focused on copywriting, an industry I’ve had experience in. More specifically, it’s about how to be a Stoic copywriter.

Read on to discover how to apply Stoicism to being a content writer and techniques that will make you better at your job. Fate permitting.
